Itinerary Quick Look

We’re happy to tailor this private tour of Beijing to match your interests. Please note that the time frame is for reference only and may vary due to traffic conditions on the day of your tour.

Your tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby as long as the hotel is within the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing. If your hotel is outside the Fourth Ring Road, or if you need to be picked up at the train station or airport, the guide can still meet you up, but there will be an additional charge.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Once you arrive at the Mutianyu Great Wall, you'll enjoy a more relaxed experience, with fewer crowds compared to Badaling. This section offers a chance to marvel at the Great Wall's historic significance and the stunning surrounding landscapes. Take the Mutianyu cable car or Mutianyu chairlift up to the Wall, where you can hike through various sections, including ancient watchtowers and beacon towers, for about 1.5 hours. For a fun descent, you can opt for the exciting Mutianyu toboggan ride or take the ski lift/cable car back to the base.

Mutianyu is slightly more rugged and scenic, with over 96% of the area covered by trees and chestnut orchards, providing fresh air all year long, especially fragrant in the spring. After exploring, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant (at your own expense), sampling traditional Chinese cuisine.

Ming Tombs (Ming Shisan Ling)

The Ming Tombs (Ming Shisan Ling), located in the scenic Tianshou Mountains, are the burial grounds of 13 emperors from the Ming Dynasty (13681644). This grand necropolis reflects the imperial traditions and architectural brilliance of the era. Among the 13 tombs, the Changling Tomb, dedicated to Emperor Yongle, is the largest and best-preserved. It stands out for its monumental Hall of Eminent Favor (Lingen Dian), which is a masterpiece of Ming Dynasty craftsmanship.

The hall is particularly famous for being the largest wooden structure within the Ming Tombs complex. It was constructed entirely from nanmu, a rare and highly prized wood known for its resistance to decay, sourced from southern China during the Ming period. The roof of the hall is supported by 32 towering wooden pillars, showcasing the architectural ingenuity of the time. This grand hall, built without the use of nails or metal fasteners, symbolizes Emperor Yongle's supreme authority and eternal power.

Visitors to Changling can explore the vast courtyards, admire intricate carvings, and view well-preserved relics from the Ming era. Surrounded by the serene mountainous landscape, the tomb offers a deeply reflective and awe-inspiring experience, making it a highlight of the Ming Tombs complex.
