Beijing Traffic Advisory
Traffic in Beijing can be especially busy during holidays, particularly on main city roads, near popular tourist attractions, and on highways leading in and out of the city. Traffic delays may range from 10 to 30 minutes, or even longer, especially during peak hours or the beginning and end of long holidays.
To ensure a smooth journey, we recommend the following:
▪ Plan Ahead
Start your journey early and allow extra time to account for potential traffic delays. For trips to the airport, train stations, or key attractions, it’s advisable to set aside at least one extra hour as a buffer.
▪ Avoid Peak Hours
Try to avoid traveling during peak hours, typically from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, when commuter traffic is at its heaviest.
▪ Monitor Real-Time Traffic Updates
Use navigation apps like Baidu Maps or Amap to check real-time traffic conditions and suggested routes. These tools can help you avoid heavily congested areas.
▪ Organize Your Itinerary Efficiently
Plan your visits to attractions in the same area to minimize cross-city travel time. For instance, you can schedule Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Jingshan Park together, saving time and effort.
By following these suggestions, you can better navigate Beijing’s traffic conditions and ensure an enjoyable and smooth travel experience.
