Itinerary Quick Look
We’re happy to tailor this private tour of Shanghai to match your interests. Please note that Shanghai Tower may have long wait times due to crowds, so it’s included as an optional stop and is not covered in the quoted price.
Your tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby as long as the hotel is located within downtown Shanghai. If your hotel is outside this area, or if you need to be picked up at the train station or airport, the guide can still meet you up, but there will be an additional charge.
The Bund
Meet your private guide at your centrally located Shanghai hotel at your preferred time. Let your guide know if there’s anything you’d like to see more of during your tour; the itinerary is flexible and can be fully customized to your interests. Below is a sample itinerary, but you’re welcome to discuss adjustments with your guide to create your ideal Shanghai tour. Typically, you’ll visit The Bund, a historic riverside promenade along the Huangpu River. Here, you can take in stunning views of old and modern Shanghai, including landmarks like the Bund’s Old Customs House and iconic skyscrapers.
Yu Garden
Afterward, explore the 500-year-old Yu Garden, a classic Chinese garden filled with beautiful pavilions, ponds, and lush greenery. Admire the traditional Qing-Dynasty architecture of the Old Town Bazaar, and enjoy a stroll across the lucky ‘Nine Zigzag’ Bridge. Take in the serene ambiance of ancient pavilions and scenic landscapes. For those interested, the bazaar offers a fun shopping experience with souvenirs like handcrafted items, antiques, jade, pearls, silk, and other local goods. If desired, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony (at your own expense) and sample premium-quality local food.
Former French Concession
Next, explore Shanghai’s French Concession, which was once the heart of colonial life and has now transformed into a trendy neighborhood. Visit the ‘French Park’ to see locals engaging in activities like ballroom dancing, tai chi, singing, and water calligraphy. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Concession, where you can admire charming tree-lined avenues with ‘French trees’ and traditional architecture.
Jade Buddha Temple
After lunch, head to one of the most beautiful and renowned Buddhist temples: the Jade Buddha Temple. Admire the exquisite Jade Buddha statue from Burma, explore the various chambers of the temple, and gain insights into the fascinating religious culture and wisdom from your knowledgeable guide.
Shanghai Tower
Shanghai Tower is China’s tallest building and the second tallest in the world. Experience the thrill of its high-speed elevator, which ascends at 18 meters (59 feet) per second, and enjoy the spectacular light show that illuminates the tower’s exterior at night.
There’s no need to buy tickets for Shanghai Tower in advance, as sometimes there are too many people lining up on the day. If you’d like to visit, you can buy tickets on the spot (your tour guide will help you). If you decide not to visit Shanghai Tower, the Jinmao Tower can be a good alternative.
