Itinerary Quick Look
We’re happy to tailor this private tour of Zhangjiajie to match your interests. Please note that the planned attractions may vary depending on the weather conditions on your tour day.
Your tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby as long as the hotel is located within Yongding District or Wulingyuan District. If your hotel is outside these areas, or if you need to be picked up at the train station or airport, the guide can still meet you up, but there will be an additional charge.
Day 1: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
At 9 a.m., your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, home to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, where you’ll explore its two most iconic and popular attractions.
**Tianzi Mountain**
Take a cable car up to Tianzi Mountain, where you'll be greeted by vast expanses of striking, jagged peaks rising dramatically from the landscape. As you walk along the paths, spectacular views reveal themselves from different angles, offering breathtaking perspectives at every turn.
**Yuanjiajie**
In the afternoon, take a public shuttle bus to the Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, famously known as the inspiration for Avatar's Hallelujah Mountain. Due to its renowned scenery, it’s one of the most visited areas in the park. Spend about an hour walking the scenic trails before taking the shuttle bus to the cable car for a descent down the mountain.
In rainy or poor weather conditions, the beautiful views at Tianzi Mountain and Yuanjiajie may not be visible. Instead, you can choose to visit the Ten-mile Gallery or Golden Whip Stream, or even both. These two locations offer scenic views even in rainy or foggy weather.
Your trip will conclude around 5 p.m., with a drop-off at your hotel in Zhangjiajie city center.
Day 2: Baofeng Lake-Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon with Glass Bridge
**Baofeng Lake**
Begin your trip with a pick-up from your hotel in Zhangjiajie’s city center at 8:30 a.m. Your expert local guide will lead you to Baofeng Lake, a serene destination surrounded by graceful mountains and enchanting emerald-green waters, fed year-round by rainfall, mountain springs, and underground streams. Take a scenic boat ride to fully immerse yourself in the lake’s natural beauty.
**Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon with Glass Bridge**
Enjoy a delicious lunch (at your own expense) at a carefully selected local restaurant. Afterward, head to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, a renowned destination for explorers and nature lovers from around the world. The canyon is famous for its stunning Zhangjiajie landscape, with dramatic cliffs, lush forests, ancient caves, vibrant ponds, and a river that winds through the heart of the canyon.
Next, walk on the world’s longest and highest Glass Bridge, located within the Grand Canyon. Suspended over a deep valley, the bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire canyon. As you stroll across, enjoy the sight of waterfalls and majestic landscapes on either side. Standing on the bridge feels like floating above the canyon. At the end of your adventure, you'll enjoy a comfortable transfer back to your hotel in Zhangjiajie.
Day 3: Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park
Our guide will meet you at your hotel and drive you to Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie’s highest peak at 1,518 meters. Known as the 'soul' of Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain offers breathtaking views, including graceful ancient trees, karst hillocks, and winding roads carved into the cliffsides. The cable car ride, which is the longest in the world, takes about 30 minutes to travel from the city center to the mountain summit.
Tianmen Mountain Glass Walkway: Located in Tianmen Mountain National Park, the Glass Walkway is one of the world’s highest observation platforms, perched 1,430 meters above the ground. This 1.6-meter-wide, 60-meter-long glass bridge extends out from the sheer cliff, offering thrilling views of the mountain below. It has been compared to the Grand Canyon's 'Skywalk' in Arizona, USA.
After the tour, your guide and driver will escort you to Fenghuang Ancient Town, a 4-hour drive away. Once there, enjoy the enchanting night view of this historic town.
Day 4: Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town-Furong Ancient Town (if time permits)-Zhangjiajie Departure
Today, enjoy a wonderful tour of Fenghuang Ancient Town, a nationally renowned historical and cultural city, hailed by famous New Zealand writer Louis Alley as the most beautiful city in China.
According to legend, the ancient Indian bird "Phoenix" would collect scented woods and set itself ablaze when it reached 500 years old, only to rise from the ashes, never to die again. In Chinese culture, this bird is called Fenghuang, a revered, mythical creature.
Wander through the town’s charming alleys, paved with stones and lined with wooden houses along the Tuo River. The Miao people have walked these stone paths for generations. Highlights of today’s tour include a boat ride along the Phoenix River, a visit to the Former Residence of Shen Congwen, and the Ancient Town Museum, among others.
In the afternoon, we’ll drive you back to Zhangjiajie and escort you to the airport or train station. Your service concludes here.
