Built during the Ming Dynasty, this ancient site was where Chinese emperors conducted annual ceremonies to pray for good harvests and the favor of the heavens. Visitors typically enter through the Southern Gate, where they encounter the beautifully crafted Circular Mound Altar, a three-tiered marble platform used for sacrificial rites. Following the Danbi Bridge, also known as the Sacred Way, leads to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the centerpiece of the Temple, distinguished by its iconic blue-tiled roof and dragon motifs, symbolizing the emperor's role as the intermediary between heaven and earth. The expansive grounds also feature the Imperial Vault of Heaven, encircled by the famous Echo Wall, known for its unique acoustic properties that allow sound to travel across great distances. While wandering the park, visitors can observe locals practicing Tai Chi and dancing, enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of the site. The serene environment and rich history make the Temple of Heaven a must-see on any Beijing city tour, with a visit typically lasting around two hours.
